06 Feb Getting to Know Lauren Spencer – Myotherapist & Remedial Massage Therapist
Why did you choose to become a Remedial Massage therapist & Myotherapist?
I’ve always been fascinated by the human body, human movement and healthy living. This, combined with my passion for helping people, lead me to pursue a career as a manual therapist.
What are your favorite aspects of Massage?
I love the challenge of piecing together someone’s symptoms and health history to try and figure out what is happening for them and how I can alleviate their pain. It is very rewarding to see my clients benefit from my treatments and I particularly enjoy meeting and connecting with a diverse range of very interesting people.
What are some of the benefits you’ve received from Massage & Myotherapy?
Massage and Myotherapy has helped me with plenty of sports and training related pain and postural imbalances over the years, as well as completely resolving some minor whiplash I suffered after a car accident. It has also provided a lot of stress relief and relaxation when I’ve needed it.
What do you do to keep yourself healthy?
I lead an active lifestyle. Running has been my go to for many years, particularly early in the morning when the world is quiet and there’s not many people around. I find it meditative and it gives me a great lift for the day. I also try to incorporate a resistance work out at least once a week.
I aim to get as much nutrients as I can from my food, eating organics vegetables when possible and take supplements prescribed by my naturopath.
When you’re not at work, how do you love to spend your time?
I love spending time with my family and friends. I’m happiest when I’m in the great outdoors; I adore hiking, camping, surfing, the list goes on!
What are you reading/listening to/watching at the moment?
Now that my studies are over, I’ve finally taken down War & Peace from the bookcase. I figure it’s now or never!
What’s your favorite Melbourne café or hotspot?
I love St Kilda in the summer time. My current obsession is Piccolina Gelateria.
What’s one final thing you’d like people to know about Remedial Massage & Myotherapy?
You don’t need to be in pain to receive tremendous benefits from massage and Myotherapy. Regular treatments can prevent the occurrence of injuries, alignment issues and assist with stress management.
