06 Feb Getting to Know Dr Raelene Gill – Chiropractor
Some of you may have been wondering who I am so I thought I would share a little about me:
Why did you choose to become a Chiropractor?
I applied to study chiropractic right out of high school but didn’t meet the requirements. Life took me on its twists and turns and it was in my 30’s that I was encouraged to try again. Returning to university as a mature age student meant that I was there to learn and ready to take in everything that I could. I am so grateful that life took me on its path as I wouldn’t have been ready at 23. I have always wanted to help others and I love natural healthcare so chiropractic was the perfect fit.
What are your favourite aspects of Chiropractic?
I am truly in awe of the power of our bodies to heal, regenerate, renew and restore. I love the fact that I get to help facilitate the removal of interference then watch the power of the body to heal the body. I have found regular chiropractic care to be a game changer in so many of my patients lives. It can help with low back pain, headaches, painful periods, prime the immune system to reduce or alleviate sickness, increase mental clarity and so many other added benefits.
How did you discover NET?
I had a friend that was starting work at a new clinic that focused on NET. She started practicing on me and I was hooked! The next year I went to Sydney and studied NET and life changed. I was finding that some patients with physical symptoms weren’t getting better with the treatment and things weren’t adding up. NET gave me the tools to help when there was an emotional stressor to the physical symptom or ailment. NET has helped me heal myself and has allowed me the opportunity to help others on their journey of health and healing.
What are some of the benefits you’ve received from Chiropractic care and NET?
Chiropractic care has been a component of my life on and off for 35+ years. I didn’t truly understand at first the power that comes with regular care in assisting the immune system, but I found it a great tool to assist me in my own health and wellbeing. When I became a Mum I found that I was able to get help for my daughter naturally, easily and effectively with regular adjustments. Now my child tells me when she wants an adjustment and how she wants me to adjust her! She has even started learning about NET at only 6!
What do you do to keep yourself healthy?
If it wasn’t for delicious food, I would be a 50kg athlete but I have found regular exercise such as pilates reformer and yoga allow me to enjoy food and stay healthy! In my younger days I enjoyed running, weights and martial arts but now I have found a passion for pilates reformer. I love how I slow down and connect each movement with each breath.
When you’re not at work, how do you love to spend your time?
I am blessed to be the mum of an amazing 6-year-old named Grace. She is an active and social soul who loves travelling and the outdoors. Like her Mum she also enjoys her yoga classes and going to a nice café for a drink. Travel has always been a passion of mine, so it has been great being able to start travelling with my daughter seeing more of our beautiful country.
What are you reading/listening to/watching at the moment?
I love to read and often have a few books on the go. At the moment I am reading “Man’s search for meaning” by Viktor Frankl as well as “Wheat Belly” by Dr William Davis. I also love to listen to podcasts on a regular basis. I have been loving FX Medicine podcasts on topics such as “Food-Gut-Gene Connections” and “Leaky Gut Syndrome”.
What’s your favorite Melbourne café or hotspot?
In my 20’s and 30’s I could tell you the hotspot but now I can share my all time favourite places. I have grown to love Hibiki which is across the road from us in Camberwell. They make a great coffee and delicious food. I used to frequent St Ali café in South Melbourne, but I almost have to sell my child to afford their coffees! Now we have a local café to us that my daughter loves as do I. They make homemade waffles which Grace loves and a scrumptious breakfast bowl that keeps me happy also!
What’s one final thing you’d like people to know about Chiropractic and NET?
Pain is not an indicator to spinal health. It is one of the last things to be triggered or activated and a large percentage of the time you will not experience pain with subluxation. Chiropractors are focused on removing interference and allowing your body to function at its best. True health comes with preventative care and that is the area of chiropractic that I truly love most. Helping assist patients in restoring or maintaining long term health is rewarding in so many ways.
NET has helped me in so many ways I cannot list them all. It has helped me to heal, restore, refocus and strengthen from the inside out. NET allows you to face and remove emotional stressors in the body. For me personally it has helped me to refocus and gain awareness of emotions and stressors that I may have not been consciously aware of.
